Chandigarh, Sep 16 (UNI) Himalayan Warrior, a joint UK-India exercise comprising specialist high altitude training, will commence tomorrow in the Ladakh region.

The exercise, which would also include acclimatisation, would end on October 11.

This is a unique opportunity to share best practice between elite soldiers of both British and Indian Armed Forces.

This specialist environmental training is the culmination of three years interaction between the Royal Marine (RM) mountain leaders and the Indian Army High Altitude Warfare School. Emphasis will be given to survival and basic infantry skills in order to improve their ability to operate above 5000 metres.

The RM has already welcomed the opportunity to train alongside the Indian Army in one of the most challenging environments in the world that will test their specialist high altitude and mountain leadership skills.

The RM are the amphibious infantry of the UK and alongwith the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary form the Naval Service. They are also the UK's specialists in mountain and Arctic warfare. A core component of the country's Rapid Deployment Force, the Corps is able to operate independently in all types of terrain and is highly-trained as a commando force designed to be able to quickly deploy and fight in any terrain in the world.

The Indian airborne forces who are taking part in this exercise are especially trained high altitude warfare troops capable of operating independently in varied snow-bound mountainous regions.

They are well equipped and experienced for conduct of all types of operations in all environments.
