HPTDC's Ahmedabad records Rs 35 lakh record hotel bookings

Shimla, Sep 16 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Coporation's Ahmedabad marketing office has recorded Rs 35 lakh hotel booking during a short span of five months.

The HPTDC's Ahemdabad marketing office has recorded hotel bookings and package tours of Rs 35 lakh from April one to August 31, this year, office incharge Desh Raj Thakur said in a release here.

He said an upward trend has been registered among the Gujarati tourists to visit the state as they were visiting the marketing office and the pavilion of Himachal Tourism set up at the Travel and Tourism Fair being held at Ahmedabad.

More than two lakh tourists from Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat were expected to make their trips to various tourist places during the Diwali festival holidays, Mr Raj said.

He said since all business establishments remain close around Diwali period when they were expected to visit the state.

The office, set up at Ahmedabad in 1998, posted a business of Rs 18 lakh, which has shot up to Rs 62 lakh in 2006, he said.

He said Gujrati tourists over the years have developed a special fascination for Himachal and the corporation was offering 30 per cent discount to the senior citizens during the tourist season during summers and another ten per cent discount offered in hotel bookings during the off season.
