According to police, a farmer, identified as Dilip Baburao Mangalkar (32), jumped into a well in his farm along with his wife Yogita Mangalkar (26) and daughters Hritika (4) and Moni (two-and-a half years) in the wee hours today. Yogita was said to have been eight months pregnant.
The cause of suicide was not immediately known, but preliminary reports said the family had taken the extreme step as Dilip had been unable to repay a loan of Rs 12,000 taken from a bank about eight years ago to dig a well in his field. The outstanding amount had grown to Rs 60,000 as Dilip, who owned ten acres of land, did not repay it in time, the reports added.
