Hoshiarpur, Sep 16 (UNI) To overcome the problem of unemployment and to provide job opportunities to the youths between the age group of 18-40 years, the Punjab government has established the Punjab Youth Employment Generation and Training Board (PYEGaTB).
According to the official sources here today, PYEGaTB has been established under the direct control of the Chief Minister for tackling the problem of unemployment.
PYEGaTB is in the process for formulating policies and programmes to make youths employable by providing them counselling, guidance, vocational education and training. Steps for enhancing the job opportunities in the state through suitable policy are being taken.
Special emphasis is being laid on enhancing the soft skills and removing vocational skills / competency gaps of youths of the state and at the same time exploring employment opportunities for them not only in India but also in abroad.
As many as 4.42 lakh unemployed youths are registered with the District Employment Exchanges in the state as on March 31 this year. The total number of jobless youths is likely to be much more as there are a large number of persons who have not got themselves registered with the employment exchanges.
PYEGaTB has already directed all the Deputy Commissioners (DC) of the state to get surveyed the actual number of unemployed youths in their respective districts.
The DCs have deputed executive officers of Municipal Corporations/Councils, Block Development and Panchayat Officers and volunteers of the District Literacy Mission to conduct the survey of jobless youths including males and females between the age group of 16-40 years to ascertain the exact number of them.
A prescribed biodata form for getting it filled from unemployed youths has been circulated to the officials and it is expected that they would submit their complete report before September 30.
