Port Blair, Sep 16 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Administration installed a disaster warning siren to alert the people during any calamity.
Official sources said here today the warning siren had been installed in the premises of the Port Blair secretariat and will blow at high pitch during any calmity.
An administrative notice stated that the siren will be tested on September 18 and October 3 between 1000 and 1100 hrs and the public was asked not to panic as it would be done only for testing.
The release added that the siren would blow continuously at regular intervals during actual disaster.
The sources told UNI that the administration had decided to test the siren regularly on the 18th and third of every month between 1000 hrs and 1100 hrs to check its operation.
The decision of installing the siren was taken after the two successive earthquakes in Indonesia on September 12 and 13 and subsequent tsunami alerts.
