Chennai Cheetahs win the Presidency Cup

Bangalore, Sept 16 (UNI) In a keenly contested match amidst rainy conditions, Chennai Cheetahs clinched the Presidency Cup of the Historic Assetz e4e Madras Colombo Rugby Series by defeating Kurunegala RFC (Sri Lanka) by a slender margin of 19-17.

The Chennai Cheetahs scored early points with the Captain and Indian International Emil taking three penalties and getting Nine points.

The first Half saw Chennai dominating the game with tactful kicks and passing. Kurunegala bounced back in the second half scoring two tries and taking the lead from Chennai. Until the 70th minute Kurunegala was leading by 17 to 12.

The seconding off of a Kurunegala player reduced the team to 14 players. Chennai bounced back as Ignatius scored a try running past Five players. The try was later converted by the Chennai captain Emil Vartazarian who scored a total of 14 points for the team.

The Chennai Cheetahs showed signs of giving in the last five minutes but the opportunities were not seized by the Sri Lanka team.

The cup was presented to the winning team by Mike Holland CEO of Assetz.

Ignatius of the Chennai Cheetahs was adjudged the Most Valuable player of the match.
