Bhopal, Sep 16 (UNI) The 47th National Senior Inter-state Athletics Championship will be organised here from September 17 to September 20.
The championship has been organised under the joint auspices of the Madhya Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Department and the Madhya Pradesh Amateur Athletics Association.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would inaugurate the programme tomorrow.
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Tukojirao Pawar told reporters here today that 600 national and international-level sportspersons and 100 technical officials from 29 states would take part in the event.
He said 36 athletes, including eight women athletes, from Madhya Pradesh were participating in the championship.
During the four-day event, various contests, including races, shot put, discus throw, high jump, long jump, triple jump, hammer throw, pole vault and javelin throw, would be organised.
Mr Pawar said players would be required to compulsorily undergo doping test.
During the championship, probable sportspersons for next year's Beijing Olympic Games would be selected. On the occasion, 165 sportspersons and eight foreign coaches would be present.
Among renowned players taking part in the event include Anju Bobby George, J J Shobha, Manjit Kaur, Surendra Kumar, Sunil Singh, Sini Pol and Parija.
