Chandigarh, Sept 15 (UNI) To commemorate the historic occasion of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the raising of Headquarters Western Command on September 15, 1947, a wreath laying ceremony and the Army Commanders' Conclave were held at Chandimandir today.
In an elaborate wreath laying ceremony, which was conducted to pay homage to the martyrs of Western Command at the Veer Smiriti (War Memorial) of the Chandimandir Military Station, Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command along with Lt Gen SK Sinha, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir; Gen S F Rodrigues, Governor of Punjab and all the former Army Commanders of the Western Command present on the occasion paid their tributes to the martyrs.
Later in the day, an Army Commanders conclave was held, which was attended by nine former Army Commanders along with their wives.
On the occasion, an audio visual presentation was screened showing the evolution of Western Command since its raising till date.
The day's activities also included the release of a special first day cover to commemorate the Anniversary by the Army Postal Service.
Lt Gen Sinha, unveiled the blow-up and the release of special cover displaying 'Veer Smiriti' and special cancellation of Dharam Chakra. Dharam Chakra is the insignia of Western Command.
