Water conservation has borne good results in Gujarat: Modi
Mehsana, Gujarat, Sept 15 (UNI) Chief Minister Narendra Modi today claimed that water conservation has borne results in Gujarat with groundwater levels showing an increase in north Gujarat, Kachch and Saurashtra regions due to water recharging.
Addressing a gathering of farmers here, Mr Modi asked the Centre to conduct a survey of the region and witness the change. The groundwater level has increased following the construction of check dams, ponds, Narmada canal and Sujalam Sufalam Yojana, Mr Modi said.
Talking about the agricultural production in Gujarat, he said that from Rs 9,000 crore, the total worth of agricultural produce in the state has risen to Rs 34,000 crore over the last five years.
''Today, Gujarat imports 80 per cent of cotton to China,'' he said.
