LONDON, Sep 15 (Reuters) British police closed a section of motorway in northwest England today after reports of a suspicious package on a coach, a police spokesman said.
Police arrested a passenger after the coach driver reported that he had been acting suspiciously.
Army bomb disposal officers were called in to examine the passenger's bag and the coach.
''It is a suspect device,'' a Merseyside police spokesman said. ''All the passengers are off the coach and are safe.'' Police released no more details of the incident near Liverpool, northwest England.
The M62, a busy east-west route, was closed in both directions between junctions three and six.
It is likely to stay closed until the afternoon while police investigate, the spokesman added.
Security was tightened in Britain after failed car bombings in London and an attack on Glasgow airport earlier this year.
Police were already on high alert after four suicide bombers killed 52 commuters in London in July 2005.
