Raikkonen puts Ferrari back on top in Belgium

By Staff

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium, Sep 15 (Reuters) Kimi Raikkonen put Ferrari back on top of the timesheets today in final practice for the Belgian Grand Prix.

The Finn, winner for McLaren in his previous two appearances at Spa, lapped the longest circuit on the calendar in a time of one minute, 46.137 seconds.

Raikkonen is currently third in the championship, 18 points off the lead ahead of tomorrow's race.

His Brazilian team mate Felipe Massa was second quickest, 0.251 seconds behind on a bright and crisp morning in the Ardennes forests.

McLaren's Fernando Alonso, embroiled in the spying controversy that stripped his team of all their 2007 constructors' points and incurred a record 100 million dollar fine, lapped third fastest.

Championship leading team mate Lewis Hamilton, three points ahead of double world champion Alonso with four races remaining, was fourth.

Poland's Robert Kubica failed to set a time after stopping his BMW Sauber on the track early in the session.
