Punjab for reservation in promotion for sportspersons

Jalandhar, Sep 15 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced to amend rules for reservation in promotion for sportspersons in the state.

The Chief Minister, after presenting Lifetime Achievements Awards and Awards of Excellence to Punjab Police sportspersons here, said rules would be amended to provide reservation in promotion in services to the national and international level sportspersons.

Mr Badal also announced to give Rs one crore to the winner of gold medal in the coming Olympic games and a sum of Rs 50 lakh and Rs 25 lakh to the winner of silver and bronze medals respectively.

The ban imposed on recruitments in the Punjab Armed Police would also be lifted by making changes in the rules, he said adding that every year new sportspersons would be inducted in the PAP for the promotion of sports.

He exhorted the veteran sportspersons to encourage sports in their respective villages so that young talent could be recognised and promoted and also promised to provide all kind facilities to them.

Member of Parliament and Punjab Olympic Association president Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, who was the guest of honour on the ocassion, demanded amendment in the rule so that the sportspersons, who were demoted by the ruling of the High Court, could be promoted to the last post they held.

On the ocassion, 130 sportspersons including Pargat Singh, Sunita Rani and Gaganajit Singh among others, were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards, 25 honoured with Award of Excellence and 30 coaches of different events were also honoured by the Chief Minister.
