New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today appointed G S Rao as acting president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee.
''Mr Rao has been entrusted with the responsibility of the acting president of the APCC till the appointment of a new president,'' Congress General Secretary and Andhra Pradesh Congress in charge Digvijay Singh said.
Mr Rao is presently also holding the post of APCC vice-president.
Mr Singh said the new APCC president would be appointed within a week and the party is deliberating over the matter.
Mr Rao succeeds Mr Keshava Rao who recently stepped down as APCC president in the wake of his son's alleged involvement in a shooting case.
