Srinagar, Sep 15 (UNI) Two infiltrators and a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant were killed in the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours, an official spokesman said today.
Troops guarding the border noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) at Deradoori in Kupwara sector early this morning under the cover of darkness.
When challenged and asked to surrender the infiltrators opened fire. The fire was returned and in the ensuring gun battle, two militants were killed.
Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunitions were recovered from the slain militants.
This was the third infiltration bid by the militants in this month and first during the holy month of Ramazan.
Troops guarding LoC, in Baramulla sector killed four infiltrators soon after they crossed to this side from POK on September 10 morning.
Four more infiltrators were gunned down by the troops in a fierce encounter ensued after they (infiltrators) sneaked into this side in Machil sector on September 11.
A militant of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was also killed by security forces in north Kashmirtoday, the spokesman said.
He said, a joint operation was launched by the 33 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police in a village at Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara.
During the operation, an encounter took place in which a militant was killed. The slain militant was later identified as Abu Musaib, a resident of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
An AK rifle, five magazines, 100 rounds of ammunition and three hand grenades were recovered from the slain militant.
A security personnel was also injured in the gunfight, who was later hospitalised, the spokesman added.
