Mumbai, Sep 14 (UNI) The prosecution today filed a supplementary chargesheet against Fahrukh Mapakkar for his alleged involvement in a 1993 Mumbai riots case.

The supplementary chargesheet was filed before additional sessions judge V B Kamkhedkar. Defence advocate Shakeel Ahmed informed that the police has filed the supplementary chargesheet along with some additional statements recorded by them in this case.

The case dates back to Jaunary 10, 1993 when the police had fired upon a crowd emerging out of the Hari Masjid here. The mob had allegedly planned to attack a Hindu colony in Sewree here in retaliation of the ''Babri Masjid demolition''.

In the police firing, six people were killed and several others injured.

Police had arrested 50 people, who were part of the mob, and charged them with the murder of a man. However, 49 of them were earlier acquitted for lack of evidence while the case against Mapakkar was pending.

Although the police had defended the firing action by contending it was necessary to maintain law and order since communal riots had occurred at several places, the Srikrishna Commission had passed strictures against the police officer who had given the order to open fire.
