Shortest Poonch-Kashmir road link in offing: Azad

Jammu, Sep 14 (UNI) A shortest Poonch-Kashmir road link will soon be created to connect both the provinces of Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today announced.

Looking at the greater need of better thoroughfare between the two regions, Mr Azad asked state Road and Building Department to immediately do a survey for construction of a 42-km-road between Loran in Poonch and Arizal in the central Kashmir district of Budgam and prepare project report, which would be sent to NABARD for funding.

This shortest road link would open up area for faster development, besides providing quick access to people on both sides, the Chief Minister said.

Mr Azad, who was on a three-day visit to bordering Rajouri and Poonch districts, said in his development scheme these districts were receiving focused attention along with similarly placed areas.

The Chief Minister also disclosed that Rs 42 crore were provided to the victims of 2005 earthquake in Poonch district as relief.

''Special instructions have been issued for speedily reconstruction of buildings of middle schools of Bandgagian, Sitrang and Kharapa and PHC building in Loran that were damaged by the quake,'' Azad said.
