Chandigarh, Sep 14 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry has notified the Special Economic Zone in Phase II of the Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park (RGCTP).
Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Phase II will include Wipro and Tech Mahindra. The non SEZ area under Phase II will have eSys and Bharti Airtel.
Wipro has taken 30 acres of land in phase II while Tech Mahindra which was earlier allotted 10 acres of land has taken an additional 5 acres to expand its operations. eSys has taken a 6 acre plot whereas Bharti Airtel has been allotted 5 acres. These companies had earlier opted out of the SEZ.
RGCTP has so far attracted investment of about Rs 650 crore and is currently employing more than 4500 professionals. The total annual software exports from RGCTP in 2006-07 touched Rs 200 crore which is one-thirds of the expected annual software export, worth Rs 600 crore, for the Chandigarh Capital Region comprising Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.
