Mumbai, Sep 14 (UNI) The Rupee closed steady at Rs 40.44/46 per U S Dollar in range-bound trading at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market today.
The local currency made a firm start at Rs 40.44/46 per U S Dollar, touched a low of Rs 40.50 per dollar but remained in the restricted range before closing, nearly steady from the previous close, dealers said.
Dealers said there is a possibility of Rupee's further firming up against the U S Dollar, touching the level of Rs 40.30 per dollar on next opening, Monday, but the next move depends on the RBI.
In the forwards, six month and annualised premia ended respectively at 1.56 (1.62) and 1.71 (1.77) per cent.
Against major world currencies, the Rupee strengthened today.
Rupee ended down at 55.99 (56.11/12). It firmed up slightly to close against Pound Sterling at 81.27 (81.88/89) per unit, while it ended at 35.19/20 (35.41/42) against Japanese Yen per hundred units.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today fixed the reference rate at Rs 40.45 per US dollar. The reference rate was down by one paisa, compared to previous day's rate of Rs 40.44 per USD.
