Kolkata, Sep 14 (UNI) Reflection of Another Day(RAD), a city based forum for painters, has appealed to the people to observe three-minute blackout across the country from 1957 hours on September 23 to creat awreness aginst the threat of global warming.
Announcing this here today, RAD's president Partho Roy said ''the earth is on the brink of destruction as urbanisation and destruction of forest cover is the biggest menace to environment''.
He said rapid industrialisation over the last 200 years has compounded the damage.
Mr Roy said testing of nuclear war-heads, war and de-forestation has led to the rise of atmospheric temperature across the globe, resulting in the melting of the polar ice caps.
If the people from Europe and other continents were conserving electricity, fossil fuel and ground water by restricting there usage and controlling the emission of toxic gases and heat so why not we to save ourselves ? he asked.
He said the RAD would organise 'Aranya' an exhibition of paintings, sculptures and graphics on nature and environments at the Ashutosh Centenary Hall of Kolkata Meuseum from September 23 and 29 where some 62 works of art which will reflect the thoughts of young minds on nature and environment.
