Puducherry, Sep 14 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) parliamentary party leader Prof M Ramadass today urged the administration to take immediate steps to provide reservation for minorities on the lines of Tamil Nadu in the Union Territory.
Expressing happiness over Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's statement that an ordinance in respect of quota for Muslims and Christians would be issued tomorrow, the PMK leader, in a statement here said this could be considered as a victory for PMK founder-leader Dr S Ramdoss for his efforts in this direction.
Recalling the resolution adopted in the territorial Assembly, seeking to provide reservation for the minorities and forwarding it to the Centre, he opined that the administration should have taken the socio-economic status of the Christians and Muslims in the UT before sending it to the Union Government.
Stating that the minorities, particularly Muslims in the UT were economically backward, the reservation would only help to uplift them, he said adding the territorial administration should introduce a bill in the Assembly to provide quota for minorities.
Prof Ramadass said he was ready to extend any help from the Centre to the administration in this regard.
