New Delhi, Sept 14: Even though he never set his foot in the United States, Mahatma Gandhi is being rediscovered through a clutch of websites and Virtual Ashrams in the US.
There are various institutes and organisations in the US working to spread Gandhi's message with many Gandhi related websites popping up.
Because of his growing popularity, the Truckee Meadows Community College, one of the prestigious institutions of Nevada, the US, is offering classes on Gandhi in December and April next.
To be taught by prominent Hindu chaplain Rajan Zed, who read the first historical Hindu opening prayer in US Senate in July last, these classes are titled as ''The Life, Experiments and Philosophy of Gandhi''.
According to Mr Zed, there is a considerable interest about Gandhi in the US and many people revere him as one of the greatest moral, political, and peace leaders of the twentieth century.
They are especially interested in Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence, his commitment to world peace, and his work for the upliftment of the downtrodden, Mr Zed said.
Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1949) was one of the few men in history to fight simultaneously on moral, religious, political, social, economic, and cultural fronts.
Although he never set foot on America, yet he was on Time magazine covers in 1930, 1931, and 1947; Time Person of the Year in 1930; and was runner-up for Time Person of the Century.
