BOI plans to expand global operations into more countries

Kochi, Sep 14 (UNI) Bank of India (BOI) is planning to expand its global operations into more countries including Nepal, New Zealand, South Africa and Canada.

Talking to reporters here today, BOI Executive Director K R Kamath said the Bank was in talks with a private bank in Nepal to take over its controlling stake. The Bank was also contemplating to open its office in New Zealand, a representative office in South Africa and a wholly-owned subsidiary in Canada, he added.

''Capitalising the strong presence in the UK, the Bank will open two more branches in the isles,'' he added.

Besides, the Bank had procured licences to open branches at Dhaka in Bangladesh, representative office at Dubai and upgradation of representative office in Vietnam, Mr Kamath said.

He said the Bank would open 127 new branches across the country including four in Kerala.

BOI today opened its 75th branch, a service branch, with its new branch here.

The new branch would have centralised facility for clearance of chegues, opening of accounts and issue of cheque books.
