Port Blair, Sep 14 (UNI) An 18-member under-17 football team, representing Andaman and Nicobar Islands, today left to participate in Subroto Cup at New Delhi.
A farewell function was organised at the Andaman Club here last evening, where Special Secretary, School Education SKP Sodhi was present. He urged the players to do well in the matches as the people of these Islands have great hopes pinned on them.
A local bishop blessed the players and prayed for their victory while Director SAC Lucas Robert urged the students to keep in mind three ''S's''- stamina, strength and skill to achieve the goal.
Senior officials from Sport Authority of India and Education department were present on the occasion.
''Though the Subroto cup tournament begins today, the Island team starts its campaign playing their first match with SAI on September 25 and with Nagaland on September 26,'' Assistant Director Sports in Andaman Ranjit Kumar told UNI today.
Mr Kumar said according to the schedule the Andaman and Nicobar would take on Bangladesh on September 28.
