UP: 6 killed, several injured in train accident

At
least
six
persons
died
and
several
others
were
injured
after
they
were
hit
by
the
Lucknow-Gorakhpur
Intercity
Express
on
a
railway
bridge
across
Saryu
river
in
Colonelganj
area
of
Gonda
district
this
evening.
According to police, some commuters of Gonda passenger train had stopped the train near Ghagra-Saryu bridge after pulling the chain.
However, they were hit by the Lucknow-Gorakhpur Intercity Express, while crossing the railway tracks.
The agitated 'Kavarias' ransacked Saryu railway station and tried to burn it down. They later blocked the road by placing the dead body of killed passengers. Train services remain disrupted on this rail route.
The District Magistrate and SP are camping on the spot along with other senior district officials.
Police reinforcements have been brought from neighbouring Balrampur and Bahraich districts.
Police fear some bodies might have fallen in the river.
