Kolkata, Sep 13 (UNI) A new fire fighting device was introduced in the city today, where conventional equipment is still in vogue to fight blaze in highrise buildings.
The Sian Safety Premiere Co Ltd of Thailand has developed and designed a state-of-art-technology to fight fire in a simple but very effective way.
While launching the ''Elied Fire'', a compact fire-extinguishing ball invented by Woradech Kaimart of Thailand, Shreeshyam Bearings Pvt Ltd Managing Director Pradeep Agarwal said, ''We have initially targeted the eastern market and then we will move on to other parts of the country.'' The new device has been manufactured under exclusive world property rights patent by Thailand-based Sian Safety Premiere Co Ltd.
''We are talking to West Bengal government and the Fire department to introduce this hi-tech device to extinguish all classes of fires. We will also introduce this product in multiplexes, industries, transport, Railways and colliery,'' Mr Agarwal said.
State Fire Services department minister-in-charge Pratim Chatterjee, who was present at the launch, said he was satisfied with the working of the device and would talk to other officials to intodruce it in the department.
The 1.3-kg ball-shaped extinguisher, costing Rs 9,000, is environment-friendly as it is free from CFC gases responsible for ozone layer depletion and activates within three to ten seconds after being tossed into the fire. The device could be used even by a child and it covers fire within a radius of 1.296 metres and requires no maintenance like the present fire extinguishers.
It also self-activates and produces a sound at 101-140 decibel fire alarm.
''We have already procured 4,300 balls from Thailand and another consignment of the same number will soon reach here by next month,'' company's Director (Marketing) Suryakant Khemka said.
He said a 24-hour help line would be formed to assist the fire department this Durga Puja to check fire incidents.
Besides, the company also made a live demonstration of the fire extinguishing technique in front of the media and other government officials.
