New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court today threatened to close down all unauthorised slaughterhouses functioning in the country if the Central Government fails to file its response within two weeks.

A bench comprising Justices B N Aggarwal and P P Naolekar was annoyed, as the Union Ministry of Environment and the Forest Ministry had not filed its response since August last year.

Earlier counsel for the petitioner submitted before the court, that children were being employed in these 'slaughterhouses' violating the Labour Laws. Moreover the slaughterhouses are not maintaining standards of hygiene thus, children are being forced to work under such sub-human conditions.

The apex court warned the government that if failed to respond, the court will pass an order on merits and will now hear the PIL filed by Lakshmi Narayan Modi on September 24.
