OREDA to commission small hydel project in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Sep 13 (UNI) For the first time a small hydel project with capacity to generate 110KW, installed by the Orissa Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA), will be commissioned at Sunei (Radho) in Mayurbhanja district.

Orissa Minister for Science and Technology Sanjeeb Kumar Sahoo is scheduled to commission the project at a function tomorrow.

The project, built on Bisol distributor of Kalo irrigation at a cost of Rs 52 lakh, will generate a minimum of 420,000 units of power per annum and will be sold to WESCO, Mr Sahoo said.

The Minister said micro, mini and small hydro projects had a generation potential of 200 MW in the state which were mostly river and canal-based projects.

In addition to it, if tapped, a number of perennial hilly streams could also generate huge quantity of energy and contribute to the growth of rural economy, he said.

Mr Sahoo said the people should be educated about the benefit of the renewable energy and appealed to the people for community commitment and support for the renewable energy.
