Bhubaneswar, Sep 13 (UNI) The Orissa government today decided not to recruit para teachers or teachers on contract basis for any school under the Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Development department.

Scheduled Caste Scheduled Tribe Development Minister C P Majhi said the decision was taken in the larger interest of the education of SC&ST people in the wake of the government's decision to recruit 40,000 teachers in the coming days.

Mr Majhi said the teachers working on contract were found not taking much interest in imparting education to the students. Since the parents of the SC and ST students could not afford to provide private tuition to their children only regular teachers could do justice with them, he said.

However, the Minister said while recruiting regular teachers, the existing contract teachers would be given priority depending upon their educational qualification and experience.

The department has 11 model schools, 2 teacher training schools, 201 residential sevashram, 269 high schools, 207 ashram schools and 1,463 sevasrams for the SC and ST students.

The minister said one thousand Kanyashrams( Girls hostel) were under constructions in various parts of the state to help provide education to more girls of the SC&ST category.
