New Delhi, Sept 13 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today gave its approval for the continuation of the centrally-sponsored livestock insurance scheme for the third successive year, allocating Rs 35 crore for the current financial year.
Like its implementation in 2005-06 and the subsequent year, the scheme will be implemented through state implementing agencies tasked with implementing the national project on cattle and buffalo breeding programme, Finance Minister P Chidamabarm told the media after a meeting of the CCEA.
He said the scheme will encourage farmers and cattle rearers to go for genetically improved and high-yielding animals, leading to developing and establishing animal husbandary as an industry. The scheme, he said, will also help improve quality of livestock and their products. It will also lead to direct and indirect generation of employment, he added.
