Belgaum, Sep 13 (UNI) Nearly 200 differently abled persons were presented assistive devices and appliances by Mrs Anupama Singh, President, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) and wife of General J J Singh, Chief of Army Staff under the 'Ability Beyond Disability' Mission here today.
The presentation ceremony held at the premises of the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre was attended by General J J Singh, according to a Defence release here.
Items such as tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, crutches and walking sticks were given to the beneficiaries from Belgaum and they were identified through the District Disabled Welfare Officer.
'Ability Beyond Disability' was the first of its kind launched in July 2005 and is a collaborative effort of AWWA and Artificial Limb Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALMCOI), a PSU under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment ,Government of India, which manufactures artificial limbs. The mission primarily focuses on empowering persons with disabilities of under served, un-reached and inaccessible areas of the country.
The mission since its launch had successfully conducted numerous camps and reached out to the lesser privileged citizens in far flung and remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir and the remote areas of North East besides other regions of the country.
