Andaman to keep watch on tsunami possibility

The
Union
Home
Ministry
has
asked
the
Andaman
and
Nicobar
island
administration
to
keep
a
vigil
on
the
possibility
of
tsunami
in
view
of
another
powerful
earthquake
that
rocked
the
west
of
Sumatra
island
this
morning.
However, no alert has been issued.
Earlier yesterday, following a 8.1 magnitude earthquake near Sumatra, the Ministry had issued a 'red alert' for the islands and advised the administration to take all precautionary measures.
The alert was later withdrawn.
However, the Ministry had also asked the administration to alert the people in the coastal areas and be in the highest state of preparedness.
