Indore, Sep 12 (UNI) Several people were injured in communal violence that rocked this city during the road blockade agitation by VHP workers on the 'Ram Setu' issue prompting authorities to clamp prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC in Chandan Nagar area.
Prohibitory orders were imposed in Chandan Nagar area following arson and violence during the road blockade. Violence broke out following altercation between members of two communities, who set ablaze a few vehicles besides indulging in stone-throwing causing injuries to a few people.
Police lobbed tear gas shells and used mild force to disperse the violent mob.
District Collector Vivek Agrawal said prohibitory orders had been imposed in order to bring the situation under control. Additional police had been deployed in the area.
Meanwhile, members of two communities clashed with each other and indulged in stone-pelting in Khajrana area. Additional police force was sent to control the situation.
Police used mild force to disperse the crowd.
Inspector General of Police Rajendra Kumar said the situation was under control.
Meanwhile, 41 VHP workers were arrested while attempting to detain trains as a part of the agitation. The Indore-Nagda passenger trains was delayed by five minutes.
School and colleges observed undeclared holiday. City bus service started in the afternoon.
