Tripura third position in Sanitation campaign
Agartala, Sep 12 (UNI) Tripura took third position in implementing Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) in the past five years, according to the assessment of Union Ministry of Rural Development.
Sikkim grabbed the first position followed by Tamil Nadu.
Official sources here today said Tripura had already covered more than 60 per cent of rural population under TSC while Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Tripura obtained top three ranks out of 28 states.
At present the sanitation coverage had gone up to 46 per cent, which was merely one per cent in 1981, and 21 per cent in 2001, reports stated.
In the last three years more than three crore households were provided with sanitary.
The Ministry had sanctioned the project for 573 districts of the country to construct 11.60 crore individual household latrines, 10.16 lakh school toilets, 3.70 lakh Anaganwadi latrines and 27,900 sanitary complexes during 2006-07.
