Trains stopped, roads blocked against Sethusamudharam
Jalandhar, Sep 12 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party activists and members of various Hindu organisations blocked roads and stopped trains from 0800 hrs to 1100 hrs at different places in the district today to protest against the ambitious Sethusamudram project of the Central Government.
Three trains, including Amritsar bound Howra-Amritsar Express, Jalandhar bound Ferozepur-Jalandhar DMU and Jansewa Express coming from Amritsar were stopped at Tanda Railway crossing. BJP MLA KD Bhadhari was present during the agitation there.
The agitators also blocked vehicular traffic at PAP Chowk. A large number of vehicles going towards Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh and Delhi were stranded on the road.
The protesters, led by BJP MLA Chunni Lal Bhagat, blocked the road at Nakodar Chowk, while another group of agitators blocked vehicular traffic at Workshop Chowk.
However, movement of traffic was resumed after the blockade was lifted at 1100.
