Tight security for Ganesh Chaturthi, Ramzan: Minister

Hyderabad, Sep 12 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy today said the government would take all steps to ensure a peaceful Ganesh Chaturthi and Ramzan in the city.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Reddy said 12,000 additional security personnel would be deployed in the city along with the present 10,000 in the city for the security purpose.

As many as 20 companies of CRPF and ten companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) would also be deployed.

He appealed both the communities to extend cooperation and maintain peace and communal harmony.

The Minister said the government had taken steps to provide 24-hour power supply, water and maintenance of sanitation and strict instructions issued to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for repairing roads and on maintenance of street lights.

Mr Reddy said there was no restriction on idol height and the government would soon take a decision on electricity tariff for pandals.

He said medical teams with sufficient medicines would be provided during the festival and special ambulances available for emergencies.

Commissioner of Police Balvinder Singh said necessary steps would be taken for the peaceful procession on the immersion day. As many as 1,000 video cameras would be installed on the immersion procession route and 30 anti-sabotage teams deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
