Road blockade, train stoppage mark protest against Ramasethu
Bangalore, Sep 12 (UNI) Road blockades, train stoppages and protest marches marked the agitation by VHP against move to demolish of mythical Ramasethu for Sehthusamudram Shipping Canal Project connecting east and western coasts of the country.
The protests were observed as part of the three-hour nationwide 'Chakka Jam' called by the VHP and other pro Hindu organisations.
Police said over 50 people were detained and released later. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the state.
Due to roadblocks, vehicular movement was affected for some time in Hubli, Davangere and Belgaum cities. Bangalore-Chennai express train was stopped for some time in the Bangalore City Station by Karnataka Shri Ramsethu Rakshana Samiti activists.
The protests were also reported from many parts of the state including Mysore, Mangalore, Bellary, Mandya and Gulbarga.
Some of the business establishments were also closed during the three hour protest, police added.
