Ramgarh and Khunti new districts of Jharkhand
Ranchi, Sep 12 (UNI) The Jharkhand government today notified Ramgarh and Khunti as new districts taking the tally to 24 in all.
Chief Minister Madhu Koda along with Union Minister of State Subodhkant Sahay and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha president Sibu Soren were present at the inaugaration programme organised in both newly-formed districts--Khunti and Ramgarh--respectively.
Khunti, the 23rd district of the state, was bifurcated from state capital Ranchi which was notified as sub division in 1902 whereas 24th district Ramgarh was made a sub-division of Hazaribagh in 1991.
Both districts would comprise ten blocks-- Khunti, Torpa, Karra, Murhu, Arpi and Rania will fall under Khunti district and Ramgarh, Mandu, Patratu and Gola under Ramgarh.
Earlier, a public interest litigation was filed in Jharkhand high court protesting the separation of Ramgargh from Hazaribagh.
Yesterday, the HC had cleared the legal hurdles by dismissing the public interest litigation opposing the government move.
