Chandigarh, Sep 12 (UNI) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has refered all documents related to the income, bank accounts and properties of former state DGP S S Virk to the Income Tax department.

An official spokesman here today said that the Income Tax department would make an assessment of Mr Virk's income and properties in relation to his income tax returns.

In the FIR registered against Mr Virk in the disproportionate assets case at Mohali, the Bureau has claimed that the scrutiny of the avaliable bank accounts show a large amount of both deposits and withdrawls. In the bank account No 55509 of Mr Virk, from September 2000 to August 2007, both deposits and withdrawls are over Rs three crore.

The documents sent to the IT department also pertain to the bank accounts of Mr Virk's close relatives.

In a related development a team of the Bureau paid a visit to the Chimney Heights resort at Zirakpur owned by the former DGP. The team however did not question anyone nor were any papers pertaining to the resort seized as the Bureau officials just went there to survey the resort which consists of a marriage palace, night club and a restuarant.

The Bureau has written to the Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) to clarify whether the sanction given for the resort was ' part of negligance or connivance' of its officers, the spokesman added.

The Bureau in its FIR has claimed that Mr Virk, his brother and other relatives purchased land near Zirakpur and illegally constructed a resort there. "The entire construction was illegal and during 2004-05 Mr Virk actively managed the affairs of this illegal resort by abusing his official position", the FIR stated.

As per the FIR this illegal construction of the resort caused a heavy financial loss to PUDA and the state exchequer.

Mr Virk was arrested from Delhi on Sunday by the Bureau in a disproportionate assets case registered at the Bureau's Mohali police station. He is currently in judicial custody and is admitted to the PGI here due to health problems.

Mr Virk was the state DGP during the tenure of former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh. The SAD-BJP government which came to power in March this year had suspended Mr Virk after slapping a fraud case related to the illegal occupation of a piece of land of a war widow against him.
