Chandigarh , Sep 12 (UNI) The Punjab government will soon introduce centralised online monitoring of works of all contractors executing the PWD building and roads projects in the state.
Presiding over the meeting of PWD Quality Control Cell, PWD (B&R) Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, today issued instructions to create a cell in Punjab Infrastructure Development Board to collect and process the data of works being executed by the contractors throughout the state.
He said the Quality Control Cell would strictly monitor the quality of works being executed by the contractors at various stages of the work and submit the report to the cell through their Chief Engineers concerned.
The Minister regretted that hardly any punitive action was being taken against contractors due to lax quality control and lack of effective monitoring system.
He said that due to lack of centralised monitoring system poor quality work executed by one contractor in one circle does not come to the notice of Chief Engineer of another circle.
Suggesting the codification of quality control measures, the Minister asked the Department to initiate punitive measures against erring contractors including imposition of heavy financial liability and blacklisting of specified contractor after repeated failures.
