Pune, Sep 12 (UNI) Junior national bronze medallist Pranita Ghate will lead Pune district in the All India Inter-district Junior Athletics Championship for boys and girls under-14 and under-16 respectively, to be held at Haridwar, from November 13 to 15.
Annoucing the 17-member squad here today, Poona District Amateur Athletics Association (PDAAA) honorary treasurer Raju Kulkarni said the selected athletes would go through a rigorous training camp before leaving for Haridwar. The team was finalised after the three-day selection trials held along with the senior Maharashtra State Athletics Championship, which concluded at the Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) Baburao Sanas sports complex here yesterday.
The twin meets were sponsored by the Rohan Builders Private Limited and partly by the Bank of Maharashtra.
Speaking at the final prize distribution function, Rohan Builders Director Sanjay Lunkad expressed hope that the junior athletes would emulate the feat of their seniors who won the general championship for a record seven years in succession in the senior state meet concluded here yesterday.
Mr Lunkad also announced that the selected athletes would be presented with a track suit and kits.
Speaking on the occasion earlier, Bank of Maharashtra deputy general manager V C Chitnavis pointed out that the bank has gained the reputation of employing the highest number of promising sportspersons. It was committed to extend all possible help to the juniors as well so that they could enhance their sporting careers and bring laurels to the state and the country.
The combined team is as follows: Pranita Ghate (Capt), Shriya Thingre, Chandu Jadhav, Apoorva Gaikwad, Aishwariya Bhujbal, Pooja Gaikwad, Swapnil Gossavi, Bhagyashri Khandekar, Prashant Pande, Amog Ghatge, Akash Nuwangune, Ashwin Pillay, Sangram Pande, Shrada Dube Patil, Sonia Shinde, Dhruv Yerawdekar and Ramesh Rathod.
