Guwahati, Sep 12 (UNI) Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today called up Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and assured of all Central assistance to meet the third wave of flood in the state.
Although the flood water was receding but in Majuli and Barak valley the flood situation continued to be grim.
The Chief Minister urged the Prime Minister to visit Assam to which the latter assured that he would try.
Mr Gogoi has also written a letter to the Prime Minister seeking assistance for flood relief works in the state.
The latest report from the Revenue department said altogether six million people had been affected by the third wave of flood, which had devastated all the four important National Highways of Assam.
About 1447 bridges had been damaged, while 101 incidents of breach of embankments reported so far, official sources stated.
