Ludhiana, Sept 12 (UNI) Punjab Agricultural University Teacher's Association (PAUTA) has demanded Central University status for Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
PAUTA President Dr M S Mahal today said, "Since the Central Government plans to create 16 more Central Universities and one will be allotted to Punjab, PAUTA wants PAU to be upgraded in view of University's pivotal role in ushering in the green revolution." "For its past achievements and future challenges ahead, PAUTA rightly deserves Central University status." said Dr Mahal.
According to Dr Mahal, the award of Central University status shall help PAU to tide over its tight financial position. Sufficient funds will then be available for research and development to meet new challenges being faced by Punjab agriculture.
"Adequate funds, greater autonomy and a host of other benefits associated with a Central University shall definitely increase the efficiency, output and status of PAU," says Dr Mahal.
Dr Mahal said that in this regard, PAUTA executive had recently met Member of Parliament Sharanjit Singh Dhiloon and urged him to take up the matter with the Cenrtal government. The MP was also apprised of the benefits to Punjab agriculture if PAU becomes a Central University.
"PAUTA executive will also meet Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal in this regard so that this proposal can be taken up at the State and Central Government level," Dr Mahal said.
