Manipur militant held in Nagaland

Kohima, Sep 12: A militant of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup ( KYKL) was apprehended by the Assam Rifles at Mon town in Nagaland.

The militant was identified as one ''self-styled Major Ayei Singh, alias Arambam Joy Kumar, a resident of Takehl colony of Imphal town in Manipur.

Official sources said yesterday the militant had come to Mon to meet top leaders of the NSCN(K) to negotiate a deal, imparting training to new recruits in the KYKL. It was also revealed that 'modalities' of providing shelter to the KYKL recruits by the NSCN(K) in Nagaland was to be worked out in detail. The sources said the safe haven was required to the KYKL cadres due to mounting pressure from the government forces.

The security forces in Manipur stepped up their operations against the KYKL and the Assam Rifles intensifed vigil to resist penetration of more KYKL cadres as well as ULFA cadres from Assam into Nagaland.
