Bangalore, Sep 12: The Karnataka Government banned use of cellular phones by school children upto 16 years of age (till pre-university), with immediate effect.
Speaking to newspersons here, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti and Health and Family Welfare Minister R Ashok said a circular, to this effect, would be issued in a day or two.
The ban would be applicable to government, private and aided educational institutions. The school authorities would be empowered to seize sets, if children use it in schools.
The ministers appealed to the parents to discourage the use of cell phones by children at home. Mr Ashok, quoting an expert opinion, said regular use of cell phones by children would affect their ears and hearts in the long term.
