Mumbai, Sep 12 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the Maharashtra government to decide within one month on the heritage status of roughly 85 structures from different textile mills in the city, shortlisted by the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC).

Acting on a plea filed by Indian National Trust for Cultural Heritage (INTACH), a division bench, comprising Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice D Y Chandrachud, directed the Committee to forward, within 10 days, the list of recommended structures to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and in turn asked the civic body to forward its report to the state.

The INTACH has again approached the court fearing that, like some structures demolished in the past, remaining structures from the list of 58 from National Textiles Corporation (NTC) mill, as shortlisted by the MHCC, might be demolished in the course of time.

The High Court had stayed the demolition of any structures, identified by the MHCC in any of the mills located in Mumbai, including structures standing on the lands of private textile mills, last March.
