Ranchi, Sep 12 (UNI) Police fired four rounds in the air to disperse agitating people following clashes between two communities at Giridih district as the four-hour country-wide 'chakka jam' by Ramsethu Raksha Manch affected life in Jharkhand today.
Prohibitory orders were imposed in Giridih after four policemen were injured in stone pelting during the group clashes that occurred at Padma Chowk and Bara Chowk in the town.
Police resorted to mild lathicharge and fire tenders were pressed into service to control the surging agitators.
The prohibitory orders had been issued in the town area to avert any untoward incident.
In the capital traffic was disrupted till noon that inconvenienced school goers.
According to police, no untoward incident was reported from any part of the state capital during the agitation.
Reports from Garhwa, Chatra, Hazaribagh and some other districts said long distance vehicular movement was affected in the early hours.
The agitation was a part of nationwide programme to protest Sethusamudram project in Tamil Nadu.
