Committee seeks efforts to save Kashmir's Dal Lake
Srinagar, Sep12: The Environment Committee of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has stressed the need for making a well-knit programme to conserve the world famous Dal Lake and other water bodies in the state.
The Committee observed that the health of this lake, which had suffered badly during previous years and needed to be restored with coordinated efforts of all agencies; including NGOs, intellectuals and educational institutions.
The Committee, under the chairmanship of National Conference legislator Ali Mohammad Sagar has reviewed measures initiated to protect the environment and natural resources, especially water bodies in the state.
The meeting was held in the backdrop of a tour of Dal Lake and Nagin Lake undertaken by the members of the Committee a few months ago. It also reviewed the decisions taken during a meeting with various representatives of houseboat union and Lakes And Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) officials for protecting the lakes.
