Chakka Jam call to save Ram Sethu evokes mixed response

Patna, Sep 12 (UNI) Activists of BJP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) today blocked roads and tried to stop trains at various places in Bihar to protest the Centre's ambitious Sethusamudram project.

In Patna, BJP and VHP workers tried to stop trains but security forces thwarted their move. Workers of both organisations also blocked traffic in major areas of Ashiynngar, Bailey road, Dakbunglow Roundabout, Railway station, Kankarbagh, Mahatma Gandhi Setu and other main thorougfares from 0800 hrs to 1100 hrs.

BJP MLA from Patna West Nitin Navin was arrested while leading a protest march to save the Ram Sethu near Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu.

Hundreds of workers of BJP and VHP were arrested here.

Reports from Ara said about 300 BJP workers, led by MLA Amrendra Pratap Singh, were arrested while they were attempting to disrupt train services on Danapur-Mugalsarai section of East Central Railway.

In Samastipur, BJP and VHP workers tried to enforce the blockade near residence of the District Magistrate. The activists also blocked traffic on the Patna-Samastipur section for two hours.

Reports from Bhagalpur said more than one hundred workers of BJP and VHP were arrested while they were protesting against the UPA government's move to dismantle the Ram Sethu.

Reports received here said the 'Chakka Jam' also had impact in other districts of the state.
