New Delhi, Sep 12: Byelection will be held on October 1 to fill the Rajya Sabha seat vacated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, according to a revised schedule announced by the Election Commission today.
An EC release said the notification will be issued on Spetember 14. The last date of filing nominations is September 21, Scrutiny will be held on September 22.The last date for the withdrawal of candidatures is September 24.
Counting of votes will take place immediately after the closure of polling on October 1 from 1700 hours.
The date before which the election process shall be completed is October 3, the release added.
Mayawati had resigned from the Rajya Sabha on July 5 The revised schedule has been necessitated as the Principal Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly who is the Returning Officer for the election will be busy with the 53rd conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentatry Association which is going to be held in the fourth week of September.
