Blue Dart on expansion mode, launches Surfaceline

Bangalore, Sep 12: Blue Dart Express, South Asia's largest integrated air express courier and package distribution company, today announced the launch of Surfaceline, its ground express service, with an aim to emerge leader in expess cargo distribution.

Company Managing Director Anil Khanna talking to newsmen here said that currently Blue Dart Express had a share of 5.8 per cent in ground express service, which was a Rs.1160 crore market. This was expected to grow to over Rs.2600 crore by 2012 and Blue Dart aimed to corner 25 per cent of the market share by then.

The Company which aimed to add another Boeing 757 by this year end to his six aircraft fleet had planned a Rs.1000 crore expansion plan over the next eight years. Besides augmenting its fleet strength, Blue Dart would also enhance its ground and warehousing facilities besides incorporating technology to enable smooth flow of cargo.

The first six months 2007 saw the company earn Rs.370 crore and it aimed to maintain its 20 per cent growth for the current year as well. Previous year it had earned a revenue of Rs.670 crore.

Mr Khanna said South India which contributed to 35 per cent of the total business would have a similar share in the expansion plans also.
